- Kalbarri, the capital of Midwest wildflower wonderland, lies at the
mouth of the Murchinson River, 660 km north of Perth.
- From Hwy 1 there is the Ajana Kalbarri Road - 65 km sealed road
direct to the town. The road crosses the Kalbarri National Park,
right hand several gravel roads branch off to the spots of the park.
- An alternative and scenic route departs the Hwy at Northampton and
runs via Port Gregory to Kalbarri. Since June 2000 the scenic drive
is an all weather sealed road.

- No opportunities of camping in park. Kalbarri with various motels,
hotels, chalets and camping parks is the best starting point for park
exploration.
- In Port Gregory, south of Kalbarri on the new scenic drive, is a
van park, too.

|
- From late June to November You'll find in the dry rough sandplains
a lush Garden of Eden. Around 800 species of Western Australian
wildflowers burst into bloom.
- Also for trecking and hiking this season is the pleasent time.

- Rough surface and cracked rocks on trecks in the park, particularly
in gorges and on the coastal cliff top walk.

- Kalbarri National Park protects 80 km of gorges carved into a plateau
of red and white Tumblagooda sandstone by the Murchinson River. The park
contains approximatly 800 different flowering plants. Kalflora and the
Tourist centre in Kalbarri offer many informations about them.
- Strange sandstone formations, aged and weather-beaten, impress bushwalkers
and wildlife enthusiasts. There are a number of tour operators who
regulary schedule trecks into the park. Guided walks are an excellent
way to see the best of the gorges. But - only if You are all alone
You can feel the magic of the wonderful place.
- Another way to explore the Kalbarri National Park is a canoe trip. Ask
for canoe hire in Kalbarri.
- Most hiker stay in or near the gorges - "rock hopping on sandstone
ledges". There is plenty of shade and lots of opportunities for a
cool swim. Park Rangers prefer that You fill out an information form
before starting a bush walk in the inland gorges. This is for Your
own safety.
- There is a spectacular coastal treck to be found south of Kalbarri.
- Kalbarri is blessed with a unique marine environment, too. Clean, safe
beaches side by side with extreme surfing breaks, towering sandstone
cliffs boardering coastal reef fringes. And thanks to a warm offshore
current Kalbarri exhibits both tropical and subtropical species of
marine life.
- The place boasts some of the best, easily accessible, all year round
shore and boat angling between Perth and Exmouth. Fishing in deep water
close to the shoreline or estuary fishing, Tailor, Whiting and Mulloway
are waiting for You... Detailed information is available at Information
Centres or tackle shops.
